We can’t stress enough how important it is to start your day off on the right foot as a bad morning can have a domino effect on your whole day. Take cues from the morning routines of some of today’s successful entrepreneurs and adopt them into yours.
Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group
The Virgin Group Founder wakes up at 5am every day. Waking up at the same time every day is good for your body’s circadian rhythm and keeping a consistent routine is a helpful way to stay productive. Also, his wake up call is generally earlier than most people wake up so he is able to get a head start on writing emails and stay on top of current news. Branson shared on Virgin’s website, “Over my 50 years in business I have learned that if I rise early I can achieve so much more in a day, and therefore in life.”
Diane Von Furstenberg, Fashion Designer
Running her namesake fashion empire, obviously Diane Von Furstenberg needs to stay on top of her game. Before she gets ready for her work day, she always does two things. The first thing she does after waking up is meditate for 10 minutes; a practice that she has been doing for 18 years. The second thing she does each day is pay it forward by sending a nice email to someone. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Von Furstenberg explained that “sometimes it’s making an introduction or a suggestion or giving a nice compliment.”
Jack Dorsey, Founder of Twitter and Square
During a live chat on Product Hunt, Jack Dorsey stated “I look to build a lot of consistent routine. Same thing every day. Allows a steady state that enables me to be more effective when I do have to react to something out of band.” His morning routine comprises of waking up at 5am, meditating for 30 minutes, working out and then of course, checking Twitter.
Dorsey doesn’t just think about his own daily productivity but he takes others’ days into account with Twitter as a product that enables people to consumer information and to voice their opinions in an easy way. He professed, “what I care about is building daily utility. It’s the first thing people check when they wake up because they want to see the world, and the first place to people go when they have something to say or want to have a conversation.”

After Ariana Huffington collapsed from exhaustion, she changed made changes to how she approaches her life both mentally and physically. She now prioritizes getting enough sleep and the importance of unplugging and recharging herself. In terms of how she begins each day, she stated in an interview with SoulCycle “once I’m awake, I take a minute to breathe deeply, be grateful, and set my intention for the day. I also practice yoga most mornings. And I breathe!”
Katherine Power, Co-Founder & CEO of Clique Media
Each day, Katherine Power first works out for an hour as she believes it boosts her creativity and productivity. She didn’t always start every day with a workout but she adopted the daily routine once she realized that working out for an hour each morning positively impacted her mental clarity. In an interview with Self, Power stated, “Exercise wakes me up and gets my juices flowing. I get my best ideas working out or on the drive back from the gym to the house.”
