5 Cleaning Solutions You Can Make Yourself at Home

Even though colder temperatures are approaching and spring cleaning is far behind us, we could always use a good dose of thorough cleaning in our lives. But when some of the ingredients in your go-to cleaning products are, well, not so clean, it can be tough to wipe down your tables, scrub your shower, and shine your floors with total confidence. Luckily, cleaning products are super easy to make yourself with ingredients and food products that you have in your house (and that you trust). Here are some cleaning solutions that are so DIY for the littlest places that need to be cleaned around your house.

Baking Soda + Tea Tree Oil + Vinegar

Run out of toilet cleaner? No problem, we have found a solution for you. If it’s been awhile and you need to clean your toilet heavy duty, put ½ cup of baking soda and about 10 drops of tea tree essential oil directly into the toilet. Add ¼ cup of vinegar to the toilet and scrub away! If you want a solution that can be used every day, fill a small spray bottle with vinegar and tea tree oil so that you can use it on the outside of the toilet. That way, you always have a squeaky clean toilet ready to be used at any time!

Water + Rubbing Alcohol

If your countertops are looking dirty and need a good cleaning, put water and rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle and get to spritzing. Running low on rubbing alcohol? You can also use a few other alcoholic products, like vodka, to get the job done. And while combining water and vinegar makes for a good cleaning spray too, it’s not always the best option for marble or granite countertops, since the acidy of the vinegar can actually ruin the material.

Essential Oil + White Vinegar

There are way too many toxic chemicals in regular fabric softeners so try making your own version of it so your clothes come out nice and snuggly. Grab a one-gallon jug of vinegar and add about 20 to 30 drops of your favorite essential oil and voila! Your clothes will come out softer and healthier without all of the chemicals. Make sure you shake the jug before each use so the mixture is well-blended.

White Vinegar + Water

Floor cleaner isn’t always something people have in their house and now you don’t have to worry. This recipe is super simple and is really effective in making your floors look squeaky clean. Combine white vinegar with two times the amount of warm water and use a mop to scrub down your floors. They will dry on their own so there’s no need to wipe up the mess.

Water + Baking Soda + Salt

Don’t let your silver jewelry get rusty and dirty! Go to the nearest sink, line it with aluminum foil so the mixture doesn’t ruin it, and combine these ingredients together. Let your silver products sit in the solution for a couple of minutes and watch as they get brand new looking within minutes! If you’re nervous that you may ruin one of your products, try cleaning it with toothpaste and warm water instead. Allow the products to air dry.
